Fillers Are Easy?!

A board-certified plastic surgeon explains why fillers carry real risks—from minor bruising to vascular occlusion—and what questions to ask before your procedure.

Fillers Are Easy?!

As more people seek fillers and more clinics offer them, many have come to believe that 'Fillers are easy?!' My answer is...

Not easy at all!
You need to be even more careful and attentive
to achieve safe and satisfying results.

From a doctor's perspective, filler injections are actually quite nerve-wracking and demand constant caution. Complications range from relatively minor foreign body reactions all the way to serious vascular occlusion. It is therefore essential to be fully informed about the potential side effects and complications before proceeding.

Early Mild Side Effects

  • Swelling
  • Bruising
  • Redness (erythema)
  • Lumps and irregularities, overcorrection
  • Foreign body reaction
  • Pain and tenderness
  • Itching
  • Discoloration
  • Filler visible beneath the skin (Tyndall effect)

Early Serious Side Effects

  • Infection
  • Skin necrosis
  • Vascular occlusion leading to embolism, stroke, or vision loss (embolism, stroke, retinal artery occlusion)
  • Anaphylactic shock (anaphylaxis)

Late Side Effects

  • Atypical infection (e.g., mycobacterial origin)
  • Chronic inflammation and abscess
  • Surface irregularities, persistent ridges or nodules, asymmetry
  • Post-inflammatory hyper/hypopigmentation
  • Telangiectasia
  • Foreign body granuloma

It is therefore strongly recommended that you consult a board-certified plastic surgeon with extensive experience and thorough anatomical knowledge. Before proceeding, be sure to ask: which filler will be used; whether a needle or cannula will be used (this may vary by treatment area); and what post-procedure symptoms should be considered warning signs. Gather all this information before making your decision. ^^

The weather has turned quite cold.
Stay healthy and beautiful today. ^^
